Rewards and Behaviour
Behaviour and Rewards at Christ The King College
Behaviour across our college
At Christ the King College we seek to support and challenge behaviour in a way that enables students to thrive, learn and achieve within our community.
We have an inclusive approach and consider the needs of all of our students.
Our approach is to challenge behaviour that impacts the learning and sense of safety of others whilst always looking to recognise and reward the progress that students are making.
This is reflected in our classroom practice where a student may be challenged and issued a behaviour mark for actions that are affecting the learning of others, yet within the same lesson they may be recognised and rewarded with a positive behaviour mark that reflects the positive progress, attitude or achievement that they are showing in a different situation.
This approach underpins our behaviour system and reflects our college culture; to both challenge and support.
Below is a graphic that we have displayed in each of our classrooms that reminds our students of the expectations surrounding behaviour at Christ the King and also acts as a reminder for our staff and we continue to promote firm yet consistent boundaries for our students.

Our Behaviour Policy and approach to challenging behaviour has developed greatly in recent years. In tandem with our approach to Teaching and Learning we have sought to create an environment where student learning, progress and achievement is of paramount importance. The standards of behaviour within classrooms and across our College are very good and we are proud that our students are so often recognised and praised for their conduct and attitude by visitors to the College and the wider community outside.
The college recognises that It is always a difficult balance to strike between reward and challenge, but here at Christ the King College we seek to ensure that there is a balance and students are able to achieve in so many areas within the College.
Staff too are committed to recognising student achievement. Our school MIS system that we share information with parents through is a crucial vehicle for ensuring that we celebrate student progress and achievement with both parents and the students themselves.
Rewarding Our Students
Our staff reward students daily with R points being added to their school record. These are marks that reflect an acknowledgement that a student has met or exceeded college expectations and they are awarded for a range of contributions including:
-
Showing Integrity
-
Demonstrating Fairness
-
Showing Kindness
-
Supporting others
-
Making Positive Effort and Progress
These acknowledgements (R points) are continually monitored by of Year Team Leaders and Pastoral staff and once an accumulation of R marks has been reached a certain threshold, the students are further recognised with exciting opportunities such as:
-
‘Double Breaks’
-
‘End of Year Vouchers’
-
‘Certificates of Achievement’
-
‘Film afternoon & popcorn with friends’
-
‘Friday afternoon Ice Creams
-
And Many More!!
Christ the King really does seek to promote positive behaviours and look for opportunities to celebrate students successes within its Behaviour and Reward System.
